How to tell if you’re on the wrong end of the Brexit vote

Britain’s Parliament has passed legislation to force companies to publish the number of EU nationals living in their offices, following calls from businesses and politicians for clarity around the EU referendum.

The measure, which also requires the Prime Minister to publish an annual report, has been pushed forward by the business lobby as an attempt to show the public what is being planned for Britain after Brexit, and was backed by the Conservative Party and other leading parties.

But critics of the measure say it is little more than a political ploy, and will further alienate EU citizens from the country.

Prime Minister David Cameron said last week he was prepared to scrap plans to require companies to post information about their foreign nationals in the UK on their websites, but was under pressure to back down after a series of recent terror attacks.EU nationals are allowed to live and work in Britain without a visa and are free to live, study or work in the EU.

Britain’s parliament passed the legislation after a petition by business groups and other stakeholders.

The move comes after an EU referendum result showed Britons overwhelmingly voted to leave the bloc in a vote that was seen as a referendum on the EU’s stance on Brexit.

British Prime Minister David May said last month that Britain would not be able to maintain its accession to the bloc if it did not agree to the new measures, which would require businesses to publish numbers of EU citizens working in their companies.

The new legislation would force companies like Uber to publish their annual accounts, which will also include the number living in offices in Britain.

“We know that the referendum result was a clear mandate for us to be ready,” said a source close to the Government.

“We are prepared to face the consequences.

We are prepared, even if it is only on the margins, to change our position on EU membership.”

Business groups have said the legislation will hurt the economy and hurt UK jobs, and have warned it could hurt Britain’s competitiveness.

A separate measure to require the PM to publish annual reports from companies that are not part of the EU was passed by the British House of Commons in December, with Conservative Party members voting in favour of the bill.

The legislation was introduced in March after a report by the Office of the Commissioner for Investigatory Powers, which is responsible for monitoring UK intelligence activities, found that there were “significant problems” with transparency in how businesses were reporting data.

In response, May pledged to change the way the Government reports on its intelligence operations.

“It’s important that the Government publishes the data we collect and use and that companies share with the public the information they have collected,” she said at the time.

The Government has so far published no information about how many companies are in breach of the rules.

But the measure is expected to be challenged in the courts, where the Government could be required to reveal how many EU citizens live and study in the country without a residence permit.

“I have been very clear that we will not be cowed by threats of legal action and have no intention of waiving the law,” a Downing Street spokesperson said.

“This is about giving our people confidence to work hard and keep their doors open.

This is about putting our economy back on track.”
