Delhi Police arrest a man over ‘hate speech’ on Facebook
New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly shared “hate speech” on Facebook and urged people to “burn down” the government’s “pink agenda”.
The man, identified as Anil Gokhale, was charged with sedition and inciting people to commit a criminal act and was released on bail, police said.
Gokhal said he would appeal against his arrest.
The man had previously posted on Facebook a post calling for a protest in support of Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, which has since been deleted.
He has since said he had deleted the post.
India has been under a high-level of political tension since December, when police arrested five protesters who allegedly participated in a peaceful demonstration that turned violent.
The government has been struggling to contain the wave of protests since it was launched in January to protest against alleged corruption and alleged police brutality.
